When you’re photographing an event, often the key to getting fantastic results is to make sure that your images tell a story. This practice is likely to get the best reception from those who were present for the event as it will help them to remember the day and reflect back on everything that happened.
One of the techniques which will help you to tell a complete story is documentary photography. This might also be called creative journalism. It will allow you to capture events as they happen, how the happen. It will focus on the important points of the day in order to bring back memories for people.
Look to capture emotions rather than just events. This will give your story an additional layer and will really resonate with the guests. Photographing these personal little moments will help you to become a multi-faceted photographer who is able to create stunning images.
Ensure that you adapt depending on the event. For example, people will want to know about the love story at a wedding and the fun goings on at a party. Focus on the parts which will matter to your story and which will shape it. There may even be a couple of unexpected yet beautiful moments which you’re able to capture on camera to be remembered forever.
