Animals can make great subject for photographs, but they can also be very difficult to take good pictures of. They’re not always compliant with your plans, so if you need them to sit still, or to pose at a certain angle, they might well have other ideas. You can certainly take very good photos of animals, but it might not always be easy.
One of the main things you will need to be a good animal photographer is patience. This is applicable whether you are trying to take photos of animals in the wild and it is all a waiting game, or you are taking portraits of pets in a studio. All animals will move around and may be difficult when they are the subject of your photographs. This means you might have to use a different setting on your camera, such as one that is set up to capture subjects in motion – this will remove the blur.

Food photography is a skill in itself, separate from other types of photography. Whereas other forms of photography might focus on people, or on larger, further reaching scenes, food photography is about capturing the detail and making something stand out. You can be a great food photographer with a good macro lens and an eye for the smaller aspects of an image.
Food photography is a skill, and if you are opening a restaurant or cafe, it’s worth contacting a specialist food photographer. It isn’t as easy as asking a skilled photographer to help – you will need to hire someone who you know is good at working in that particular field. Look at their previous work, see if they have shot bars and restaurants, and perhaps ask for a test shoot first to see how they would execute a shoot of your business. This is a good chance to share creative ideas and plan your shoot to perfection.

The photographers out there are already screaming at their monitors; “OF COURSE WE DO YOU LOUSY CONTENT WRITING NERD, WHAT THE HELL DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE ART OF PHOTOGRAPHY, FRAMING AND CAPTURING SUNLIGHT REFLECTING OFF OF A RAINDROP!” Woah now Sir, calm down. For the aficionados out there there will, of course, be a reason to keep your dusty old tripods, your camera straps and whatever other out of date gear you carry around with you. But what about the rest of us? What about the man on the street? When was the last time he needed a Kodak? He doesn’t, and he may never again.
Smartphones now are all the photographic requirements that most people need. The quality on them is improving at an alarming rate, my old 4S is pretty good, but a friend of mine has one of the newest models and the picture quality on the camera is unreal. Forget the old; get a better phone. You can then instantly upload your amazing photos without the need to develop them in a ridiculous dark room.

Image processing presents photographers with many opportunities, and a vignette is one of the options that can work to give your image some focus. A vignette is essentially a frame around your images, perhaps black in colour or white, and it essentially gives the viewers’ eye a spot to focus on.
A vignette can occasionally give your image a traditional feel, but it’s important that this technique is used sparingly. The reason for this is because it can soon become overused if it’s found in a large number of your portfolio images, and it’s certainly technique that only works well in some photographs.
Vignettes should never cover important details, and especially not the important areas of an image, and it’s important to get an idea on how to use it correctly. You can do this by researching the technique online, and looking at the good and bad examples.
